Research Interests

Broadly defined, I am interested in the complex interplay between culture and psychopathology. My primary research interests include how culture shapes cognition related to depression. My interests stem from the fact that models of depression have largely been developed in Western nations and have been used to understand depression cross-culturally. Yet, there is question as to whether or not these models effectively explain depression across cultures. A greater cross-cultural understanding of depression will allow for the provision of more culture sensitive services to individuals from different cultural backgrounds. I am interested in both quantitative and qualitative approaches to explore these questions.
