How do parents' beliefs, feelings, and behaviors relate to their children's abnormal development? My research interests are in the areas of child and family mental health and wellness, child and developmental psychopathology, and child and family evidence-based assessment and treatment. Our studies have focused on interactional patterns of disturbed and normal children and their families. Through the use of multi-method assessment strategies, we have attempted to identify the various cognitive, emotional, and attitudinal factors that influence parenting, child behavior and development, and family relationships. Specific research interests relate to attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and parents, conduct problems, internalizing disorders such as anxiety and depression, the role of emotional communication in parent-child relationships, parental belief systems, parenting stress, emotion regulation, the impact of the family environment on children?s development, and evidence-based assessment and treatment. Recent studies focus on early development in families at risk for ADHD.
