Make-up Exam Sessions Winter 2012: January 9 - April 30, 2012
(for religious conviction, domestic affliction or health reasons)
Normally students will write exams with the class at times outlined shown in the Course Outline. However, the Department of Psychology provides regularly scheduled Make-Up Exam Sessions at scheduled times in Admin 151C for students who have missed a psychology course test for a university and instructor approved reason. Times and location for writing Make-Up Exams are shown below.
In all instances, students should first contact the course instructor for permission to write a Make-Up Exam and to agree on a time for writing it. (Arrangements can be made to write in the Psychology Learning Resources Centre at other times (email lrcexams [at] ucalgary [dot] ca) when a student’s academic schedule conflicts with all scheduled Make-Exam times.) Students should also consult the Course Outline for course specific information about Make-Up Exams; for example, in some courses dropping the lowest of a set of tests is used in lieu of Make-Up exams.

Research Courses
The purpose of research courses (e.g., PSYC 504, 505) is to acquire independent research experience under the supervision of a faculty member. In a research course, you work on a one-to-one basis with a supervisor, negotiating on a curriculum of study and the requirements you must meet to successfully complete the course (e.g., a literature review, ethics approval, data analyses, etc...).
If you would like to take a research course, the onus is on you to first find a faculty member willing to supervise the course. If you are not sure which faculty member to approach or would like to find out more about the research areas of interest to faculty, be sure to visit the Topics page in the Research section of our website.
Please note the following:
- It is important that you contact the potential supervisor well ahead of the start of classes of the term in which you would like to take the research course. For instance, if you wish to take a research course in the Winter term, you should find a supervisor early in the Fall term.
- A research course must be approved by the Department of Psychology before a student may be enrolled in it. The outline you have negotiated with your potential supervisor must first be approved by the Department of Psychology. Revisions may be necessary, so again, it is crucial that this process be initiated well in advance of the start of the term in which the course is slated to be offered.
- The primary research course supervisor must be either Psychology faculty or hold an Adjunct appointment with the Department of Psychology. See the Psychology People page for a complete listing.
