Akeelah and the Bee is the inspiring true story of Akeelah Anderson. Overcoming many obstacles in her African-American community in
South Los Angeles she participates in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Akeelah’s father is dead, her mom ignores her, and her brother runs with
the local gang; she’s smart, but her environment threatens to strangle her aspirations. Learn about the ways a community and parents can use
early upbringing practices to build resiliency in children.
