- Professor Emeritus of Psychology
At the most general level, my research interests are in the areas of visual perception and cognition, particularly in normally aging individuals. My current research program has several facets, including (1) the peripheral superiority effect in texture segmentation, (2) the role of texture segmentation in the allocation of visual attention, (3) visual search deficits in older individuals and relatedly (4) the role of eye movements and the Useful Field of View in explaining age-related change in visual processing. This work has rather straightforward relevance in such domains as driving performance and advertising, and I would encourage students who are interested in applied research. Visit the Perceptual and Cognitive Aging Laboratory's web page for more information about the lab's research activities.
